Things to do in Berlin with kids
In November this year we travelled to Berlin with the whole family for a family event, to catch up with family and friends and spend our annual vacation there.
November in Berlin is not kind. It was cold, rainy and grey and I wouldn’t recommend this time of year to anyone. Especially not with small children. The family event didn’t really give us a choice and we tried to make the best of it with the following activities.
Legoland Discovery Center
The Legoland Discovery Center is located at the Potsdamer Platz in the Sony Center. As the name indicates it is all about Lego.
From the entrance you have to go downstairs where you can find some lockers and area to leave e.g. a pram.
The Center is on two floors. The ground floor has a merry go round, a station focused on building race cars, a lego/duplo area for the smaller ones to test their building skills, an area for older kids to freely build with lego, a cinema for a 15 minute Lego Movie, the photo booth, the classroom and the shop which is also the exit. The cafe/restaurant and two bathrooms are also located there.
Upstairs there is a ‘rollercoaster’ (that doesn’t do any crazy tricks and is ok for one year olds), a model world of Berlin made of Legos and some further Lego games.
Overall, I liked the experience but there were some things that didn’t leave me super excited. I think it’s the fact that it was all kind of dark (due to the pirate or monster story themes) and seemed a little cramped. The kids really had fun though, the build a squirrel class was fun as well as the 3D movie and the other activities. It’s a good activity to do.
Zoo ‘Zoologischer Garten’
The trip to the zoo was fun – except for the cold. Please go on a somewhat warm day or make sure to be dressed properly, especially the little ones.
We saw the baby panda and the hippo feeding and there was so much more going on that we didn’t see.
It’s definitely a fun activity with kids. Make sure to check all activities and plan your route accordingly.
Rittersport Welt (Chocolate Brand’s Main Store)
Rittersport Chocolate has been a staple in my family as far as I remember and I’ve always liked their marketing. Going to the flagship store therefore might have been more for me than for the kids but it turned out a really fun activity.
There are two floors. Downstairs is a shop and cafe.
Upstairs is an interactive area where you can learn about the chocolate making process, take pictures and create your own chocolate. We hadn’t booked the ‘work shop’ so that we only got to choose the flavors for our chocolate. In the ‘work shop’ you are able to be a lot more hands on in creating your own Rittersport chocolate. I would definitely book it for a next visit.
The staff was also really kind and nice which made spending time there even more enjoyable.
Jolos Kinderwelt (Indoor Playground)
Jolos Kinderwelt (Jolos kids world) is an indoor playground between Schoeneberg and Kreuzberg. It looked like the perfect idea for another rainy afternoon ahead. Unfortunately, we hadn’t checked their information properly. When we arrived, we were able to enter but it was completed empty. They weren’t open that day except for the cleaning crew.
Therefore, we only got to see the area at the front of the whole area but it looked promising.
We didn’t have time to go there and actually spend time there but it’s a place I feel safe to recommend from what I have seen.

Harry Potter Playground
On the other of the few sunny days we caught in Berlin we went to the Harry Potter Playground. I feel it worth mentioning because it has a considerable size and enough variety to keep kids of different ages busy for a while. The activities are all Harry Potter themed which adds a level of fun.
For the parents, there is a small cafe nearby where you can also get coffee and pastries to go. On the other side is the park and another playground if you’re looking for more outdoor fun.

Conclusion
My article is not nearly covering everything there is to do in Berlin with kids or sorter for a special category. I hope that sharing my experiences with the activities does give you a better idea about them so that you can make an informed decision about whether to go or not or how to prepare for it.
